Patrick Stickney announces run for State Representative

Patrick Stickney, advocate for housing and affordability, policy professional, and dedicated Tacoma resident, has announced his run for Washington State Representative to represent Legislative District 29.

Stickney is running for the legislature with three main priorities: finding solutions to rising costs, building and incentivizing affordable housing, and bolstering worker and civil rights to better protect Washingtonians.

Growing up in multigenerational and low income households shaped Stickney’s values. He worked his first job in high school at a grocery store, learning the value of hard work and the strength of unions to keep workers safe. Student financial aid and working through college allowed him to afford higher education, earning his Bachelor's degree from Western Washington University and his Juris Doctor from Penn State Law.

Stickney is a practiced leader who centers community, equity, and stability. During his time at Western, he began organizing at the local and state level affordable higher education and to improve rental conditions in Whatcom County. After law school and his first few years in state service, he moved to Tacoma with his wife, who is a teacher, and continued his dedication to a career in public service.

As an employee of the State of Washington, he has learned the complexities of multiple state departments, particularly the Office of Equity and Department of Financial Institutions. He brings intentionality, sensibility, and compassion to the forefront of his decisions as a Senior Policy & Legislative Affairs Advisor, and will do so as a state legislator.

Stickney brings firsthand experience, dedication to public service, and a vision for a stronger District. He believes that using the realities and concerns of his neighbors as a guide for legislative action will create real, long-overdue changes for the 29th LD.
